The Makeshifts are truly a throwback to the late 40's early 50's. Taking their inspiration from the early jump blues artists along with traditional rockabilly, they create a sound, that, while fresh, seems to channel these great decades of the past. The Makeshifts are influenced by greats such as Buddy Holly, and Elvis as well as Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris and Big Joe Turner, to name a few.
The Makeshifts' songs are jam-packed with quick and creative guitar solos, soulful singing, swingin' bass walks and solid, thumping drum beats. Every song they play, while respectful to the original, is tweaked into the Makeshifts' style, which is full of spirit and spontaneouity.
The Makeshifts have played all over the country and even backed up other artists several times! Performances include, oprys, dances, clubs, festivals, private parties, news casts... You name it! They've done it! With all that experience, it's easy to see why The Makeshifts are exploding onto the scene so quickly.
Why Should You Hire The Makeshifts?
We strive to make every show as authentically vintage as possible. From our instruments and how we play, to our
tweed amps, clothing and hair, we
take special care to give our show the sound and look of the period that we're representing. Not only are we experienced and easy to work with, but
we are also young and energetic.
Our band is also very flexible, and we are available from a 3 piece band and upwards. The size of our band affects our cost, and
enables us to perform for a variety of budgets and venues, though even as a 3 piece band, The Makeshifts still sound surprisingly full.
We can perform many different styles within the time period that we play from. This includes jump blues, rockabilly, rock and roll, blues, and country. Because of this, we're comfortable at many different venues and events. Examples of venues and events are - The Buckeye/Bobcat Lindy Hop Exchange, Warsaw Kentucky's Concert in the Park Series, The Boot City Opry and various clubs, bars, VFWs and American Legions throughout the country.
